Grits and Biscuits formed in 2010 by E.Z. Mo Breezy and has been pivotal in providing a southern experience to large audiences. According to an article by Black Enterprise, Grits and Biscuits has created quite a name for itself, “The reputation of the Grits & Biscuits party precedes it. Announced randomly via Southern-culinary-themed fliers, and catering to those with an ear for music from the “Dirty South” and no fear of perspiration, Grits & Biscuits is a jam-packed, no-frills affair where, as a recent email blast put it, ‘you are able to recite 2 Chainz lyrics with… professional people without being judged.'” There is much more to the production than as simply put in the email blast. The main force behind the event is E.Z. Mo Breezy, which consists of Erika Lewis, Alzo and Maurice Slade. All of who are under the age of 40 when they started working on Grits and Biscuits.
The idea came about when the group realized that there was not enough of a Southern music influence in the upper east coast states, like New York. According to E.Z. Mo Breezy they called the production Grits and Biscuits because, “We wanted something that immediately when you heard it, you thought about the South.”
